Have those warm winter coats ready for Monday and Tuesday. That's the warning from forecasters who are predicting a combination of freezing, snow, and ice for much of Alabama. The situation is prompting alerts Governor Robert Bentley to the University of Alabama. Governor Bentley placed several key state agencies on alert and urged Alabamians to prepare for a wintry mix. "With winter weather expected to impact Alabama, we are taking precautions to protect Alabamians," Bentley said in a news release. "I have alerted key state agencies to begin preparing now for anticipated severe weather winter. Alabamians must also prepare and stay winter aware as weather conditions may change unexpectedly." Key agencies placed on alert include the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), Alabama National Guard, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Alabama Department of Transportation. Bentley and AEMA are in contact with the National Weather Service and will be monitoring this weather event until the threat diminishes. The University of Alabama sent out email alerts to faculty and staff. The Tuscaloosa campus is urging all concerned to keep an eye on changing weather and to urge safety on the roads.
