Wind Project Moving Forward in Northeast Alabama

The Associated Press

Authorities in northeast Alabama say a wind project is moving forward as a renewable energy company plans to build wind turbines atop a scenic mountain ridge in 2014.

The Anniston Star reports (http://bit.ly/11ZBfId ) that project developer Pioneer Green intends to install eight wind turbines on private property near Centre along the Shinbone Ridge in Cherokee County beginning next year.

The Austin, Texas-based company said in a statement that the 120- to 160-foot blades, which will be mounted atop posts between 250 and 350 feet tall, are expected to generate enough power to light half the homes in Cherokee County.

Some residents in the area are still trying to decide if the development is a good fit for communities nearby.
