Community gathers to lay fallen officer to rest

Officer Cousette
City of Tuscaloosa

(TUSCALOOSA, AL)-- The funeral of Tuscaloosa Detective Dornell Cousette took place Sunday. The 13-year police veteran was fatally shot in the line of duty last Monday.

"For the ones that don't necessarily support us, the ones who refuse to feed us in a restaurant because we wear this badge, the ones that verbally abuse us on the streets when we are trying to protect their community, I want you to know that that commitment extends to you too," interim chief Mitt Tubbs said during the ceremony. "I hope ont day we'll realize that we are all in this together."
Hundreds of guests filled the gymnasium of Shelton State Community College, including friends, family, fellow law officers and members of the Tuscaloosa community. Police cars lined the street for the procession to his burial site.
Cousette leaves behind two daughters and a fiance.
