Birmingham Women's Fund hosts 25th annual fundraiser

Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham

The Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham is hosting Unleashed, a fundraising event, this Saturday. It will mark the 25th anniversary of the advocacy group.

Kim Cochran is the vice president of external affairs for the Women’s Fund. She said Unleashed is a ‘philanthroparty’ planned to highlight important women in the state.

“This event is a high-spirited, fun cocktail party where we’ll honor and celebrate some women change makers across our state who are doing amazing things in their own communities and across Alabama,” Cochran said.

Oscar award-winning actress Regina King is planned to be main guest speaker.

Cochran also said the mission of the Women's Fund lies in its commitment to bettering communities in various ways.

“The Women’s Fund is committed to achieving gender equity through our philanthropy, research and advocacy,” Cochran said. “We want to continue these conversations not only at the corporate level but at the legislative and community level because we know when women move forward, communities move with them.”

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Red Mountain Theatre and will also be streaming online. Tickets can be purchased online on the Women’s Fund website alongside a donation tab. Currently, the Women’s Fund has received over $150,000 in donations.

Those attending the event in-person must submit proof of vaccination online and receive a negative PCR test result 48 hours before the event.

Sponsors for Unleashed include Alabama Power, BlueCross BlueShield and Regions bank.
