Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard and his wife Susan enter the Lee County Courthouse in Opelika, Ala.

Attorneys for Former Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard are asking a Lee County judge for him to be released from prison early— again.

Hubbard is currently serving a 28-month sentence after being convicted in 2016 of 12 ethics violations. He and his lawyers asked for an early release in September and released an apology from Hubbard. They are now asking Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker to take his apology seriously and aid them in releasing him early.

The defense insisted in a statement to Judge Walker that Hubbard’s apology was sincere and he is not a threat to society.
