A hospital in Dothan is suspending elective surgeries because of an increase of COVID-19 patients needing care.

Southeast Health announced that the change would take effect on Thursday and asked residents to wear face masks and continue to take other safety steps.

Alabama intensive care units were the most crowded on Wednesday since the pandemic began, according to the Alabama Hospital Association. Just 7 percent of the state's 1,700 ICU beds were available.
