New York Times writer JASON DEPARLE. He covers poverty and social welfare issues for the Times. Recently DEPARLE has been writing about the disappearance of affordable housing. Government guidelines suggest that renters should be paying 30% of their income for housing, but many of our nations disabled and poor are paying 50, 60 and 70 percent of their income on housing. The cartoon series -- and the song -- will be coming to the States next month. Weekly U.S. vinyl album sales break modern-era record, 'Billboard' reports
Billboard reports that last week was the best week for vinyl record sales in three decades. Adele's 30 was the top-selling vinyl album of the year. Taylor Swift's Red also broke vinyl sale records.

Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Edward Holland
The legendary songwriting trio, Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Edward Holland. They wrote many early Motown hits, and helped turn the company into a powerhouse. Their songs include "You Can't Hurry Love," "Reach Out I'll Be There," "Baby, I Need Your Loving," "Heat Wave" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." Their songs were recorded by Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. In 1990 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On May 13, 2003, they will receive the BMI ICON award, given to songwriters "who have been unique and indelible influences on generations of music makers." Critics Call for Reform of 1872 Mining Law
The federal government recently sold 155 acres on the top of a landmark mountain in Crested Butte, Colo., for just $5 per acre under the terms of an 1872 mining law. Many are calling for the overhaul of an antiquated law that lets mining interests buy prime real estate at dirt-cheap prices, without owing the federal government or taxpayers a penny in royalties. NPR's Elizabeth Arnold reports.

Brad Mehldau and 'The Art of the Trio'
Frank Stasio talks with jazz pianist Brad Mehldau. Last year, his second CD, The Art of the Trio, Vol. 1, was nominated for a Grammy. He's played in several top jazz festivals across America and abroad, and is scheduled to perform solo concerts at Lincoln Center in New York City and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He's also recorded with country music legend Willie Nelson. Brad Mehldau's latest CD is The Art of the Trio, Vol. 2: Live At the Village Vanguard. He spoke to us from member station KCUR in Kansas City.
