Hamilton, AL – Extortion charges against state Representative Mike Millican have been dismissed.
Late last month, retired Houston County Circuit Judge Larry White signed a motion from the Attorney General's office to dismiss the charges. The motion was filed after Judge White dismissed similar charges and evidence against state Senator Roger Bedford. Millican and Bedford were accused of trying to influence the Marion County Commission to buy land from one of Bedford's friends using state money. Bedford was acquitted of charges after four of five county commissionesr testified they didn't feel pressured by Bedford to buy the land.
Millican's attorney says the indictments should have never been sought. He says the dismissal of Millican's case brings an end to an uncomfortable atmosphere in Marion County.
