State Rep. Tries to Eliminate "Archaic" Laws

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Representative Jeff McLaughlin says he wants to highlight some of the state's archaic laws. McLaughlin is sponsoring legislation to remove language from the state constitution that requires the Legislature to regulate dueling. He also sponsored a bill that the House passed Tuesday that repealed a 1943 law that required garfish catchers to kill the fish rather than throw it back. McLaughlin says he's not sure why lawmakers initially wanted to kill the long, skinny fish that's usually thrown back into the water anyway.
