Tuscaloosa, AL – Mike Shula is out at Alabama following a six-and-six season that ended with three straight losses. Athletic director Mal Moore confirmed Shula's dismissal this morning and says defensive coordinator Joe Kines would serve as interim head coach.
Moore also said a national search would begin for a proven head coach with a proven record of achievement.
Moore praised Shula for providing stability for our program through four years of NCAA probation that ends February first, 2007. The school has called a 2 p-m news conference and Shula scheduled a meeting with Tide players for late morning.
In his four seasons on the job, Shula compiled a 26-and-23 record. The firing of Shula means Alabama is looking for a head coach for the fourth time since 2000.
