Moundville Native American Festival Underway

Moundville Native American Festival

The Native American Festival at the Moundville Archeological Park is underway.

The event is in its 28th year and will run through Saturday. Previous years have attracted up to 15,000 visitors as well as dozens of Native American performers and vendors.

Dr. Alexander Benitez is the director at Moundville Archeological Park. He says this festival is the best way to experience and celebrate Native American culture.

“If you want to know what Moundville is about, and how the history of Moundville continues, the descendant communities carry on a lot of the legacy of Moundville. And so here, you can come and experience that connection to that past in some ways, but also celebrate that these folks are still here.”

The festival includes the main Native American stage, a children’s area, the trader’s circle, and an art market.
