Fire chief: 2 badly injured in small plane crash in Alabama

FOLEY, Ala. (AP) — An official says two people have been badly injured in a small plane crash near the Gulf Coast of Alabama.

The plane crashed Monday afternoon at the municipal airport in the city of Foley. Fire Chief Joseph Darby told reporters a flight instructor and student were onboard the plane. He said both suffered life-threatening injuries.

News video from the crash scene showed the plane crumpled and resting in at least two pieces against a fence separating a grassy field from a wooded area.

It wasn't immediately known what caused the crash. Federal transportation officials were being called in to investigate.
