Across Alabama, more non-essential businesses are closing their doors as the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases grows to 157. Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and hardware and office supply stores are among those that can remain open.

UAB health officials are announcing the opening of a new kind of COVID-19 testing site. Those who have symptoms of the virus or believe they may have had exposed to the illness can call and ask for an appointment to be screened. The provider will then schedule an appointment for testing if the caller screens positive.

Jared DeMoss is the Vice President of Clinical Operations at UAB Hospital. He says this is just the beginning.

“We have plans to expand this throughout our community so all parts of our community have access to this," he says. "Our site will open Monday and will be by appointment only, and will require you to call our call center.”

The testing site will be located at the corner of University Boulevard and 22nd Street South. The number for the call center is 205-975-1881.
