Alabama committee advances ban on abortion pill

The use of abortion pills is one step closer to being outlawed in Alabama.

The House Judiciary Committee approved a bill on Wednesday that would make it a felony to prescribe, dispense or mail RU-486 medications that induce abortions. The bill will now move to the House of Representatives.

About 40% of abortions in the U.S. are done through prescribed medication instead of surgery.
