The Alabama Writers Hall of Fame will recognize seven native Alabamian authors for their rich legacy and influence in the literary arts.
Among these famous authors is Zelda Fitgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, along with Mark Childress, Faye Gibbons, Carolyn Haines, Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, Michael Knight andthe late Ralph Ellison.
Jeanie Thompson, executive director for the Alabama Writers Forum, said Alabama has produced some of the most famous authors in the world, and her main job through the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame is to make known the talent that comes from the state.
“It’s an educational endeavor to shine light on Alabama’s literary talent," Thompson said. "And what I would like to have people understand is that we also excel at as great a level [as sports] or even at a higher level in the literary arts.”
The induction will be held March 9, from 6 - 7 p.m. in the Bryant Conference Center on The University of Alabama campus.
