Man who took woman to hospital detained in her death

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a woman has been killed in a domestic assault in Alabama and that a man who had brought her to a hospital has been taken into custody.

AL.com reports that 31-year-old Jennifer Marie Lane died Sunday afternoon following the attack inside a home in Birmingham.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates says authorities have not yet determined how the Moody resident was killed. An autopsy on her body will be done Monday.

Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams says officers who were sent to the hospital were told that Lane had died, but her injuries were not disclosed.

Williams says investigators learned that she and the man had been in a fight before he took her to the hospital in his car. Police have not yet identified him.
