The University of Alabama has issued more than 400 conduct referrals for coronavirus violations.

Nearly 2,000 students have tested positive since classes began on Aug. 19.

Only 21 UA employees have tested positive since classed began, according to the UA System COVID-19 Dashboard.

UA President Stuart Bell sent an email to students last week that said student misconduct will not be tolerated.

 

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama is selecting the University of Michigan’s pharmacy dean as its next provost. 

The Tuscaloosa campus announced the appointment of James T. Dalton on Monday. He’ll start work on Aug. 1, pending approval by University of Alabama system trustees.

UA cancels classes through Mar. 30

The University of Alabama has announced its plans to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among its students and faculty.

In an email from university president Stuart Bell, it was announced that classes will be canceled from Mar. 16-27. Classes will resume on Mar. 30 and will be taught via remote learning methods such as Blackboard and Zoom.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama officials have found an opponent they can't beat: The September heat.

University President Stuart R. Bell and athletic director Greg Byrne issued a joint statement Monday complaining that the Southern Miss game on Sept. 21 has been set for 11 a.m. Central. The Crimson Tide just held a sparsely attended game against New Mexico State with a mid-afternoon kickoff and temperatures of about 95 degrees.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — New arrangements between the University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa's business incubator are expected to help entrepreneurs and generate new jobs, officials said.

The Bama Technology Incubator, which features on-campus support for startup companies, will now be known as Edge Labs, The Tuscaloosa News reported .

University of Alabama President Stuart Bell says he plans to add a central diversity officer to campus. The new position is part of an effort to ensure a welcoming and inclusive campus for students of all backgrounds.

Bell released a statement Wednesday saying he's asked the school's Strategic Planning Council to identify a diversity officer and develop a new campus diversity plan.

Bell says the university's provost and vice president for student affairs have also been asked to review the school's current initiatives and ensure they're accessible throughout campus.
