Gifts for Pet People

Want a great idea for a gift for your favorite pet lover?  No problem!  Most pet people are easy to shop for.

**************************************

Have you ever noticed that people who like pets tend to buy gifts for others that have pet themes? It may be a figurine of a sleeping cat curled into a ball, or a book about pets, or even a pet calendar. So here’s a hint for those of you who are shopping for pet people – it’s really easy. Just buy them pet stuff!

I have a friend who is crazy about Dalmatians, so if I find something with a Dalmatian theme I buy it. Another friend has a fondness for Tuxedo cats – you know, the black cats with white paws and white chest. I found a cookie jar that she really liked. One year my sister-in-law gave me a cross-stitch pillow she made with a beautiful cat on it. I still use it and enjoy it.

So if you’re shopping for a pet person, you can find all sorts of gifts they might appreciate, and to fit any budget – things like picture frames, towels, t-shirts and sweatshirts, key chains, artwork, decorative clocks, jewelry. Personally I like Christmas ornaments, to give and to receive. Almost anything you can think of, you can find something that’s just right for a pet person. And if you have limited funds, you might give a gift certificate that says you will provide petsitting services when your pet-owner friend has to be away.

Surprising someone with a gift you know they will like is part of the fun of Christmas. And like I said, it’s pretty easy to find a gift for a pet person. The one Christmas gift you probably should not give as a surprise is – a pet! This can be a hectic time of year, even stressful – maybe not the best time to introduce a pet into a household.

Giving a pet as a Christmas gift can still be a good idea, but there may be a better way to do it. Give a gift certificate. Then after the holidays, when there may be more time to spend getting to know a new best friend, you can take the person with you to choose the pet. They get a pet they really want, and if you bring your camera, you get some great first pictures! You and the new pet owner will make memories to share and enjoy for many Christmases to come, when you’re speaking of pets.
