Southern Echo Chorale will conclude their 2025/2026 season with a spring concert at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, under the direction of Joseph Setzer. The all men's a cappella vocal ensemble will perform works by composers ranging from Palestrina to Ola Gjeilo, featuring Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia” and William Byrd’s “Mass for Three Voices”. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations at the door are encouraged. All are welcome!

For 53 years, the annual Arley Day Festival Parade and Car Show has been held in Arley, Alabama. The festival is hosted by the Arley Women’s Club (AWC) as a celebration of the town of Arley, the heart of beautiful Smith Lake, and its residents. This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 8 am until 2 pm at beautiful Hamner Park. It is free for all attendees. The festival begins with a parade through town and a pancake breakfast at the Arley Fire Station. Other activities will include a car show (with prizes!), arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, bake sale, children’s games, water slides (Parents, be sure to bring a towel), horseback rides, free hotdogs for kids and more.

Join us on May 16th at The Haunted Book Shop for an in-store party celebrating A Parade of Horribles, the next installment in the best-selling Dungeon Crawler Carl series. In A Parade of Horribles, we return to the underground world where Carl and his trusty sidekick Donut are thrust into a perilous set of races on the tenth floor of the dungeon. As the environment grows increasingly treacherous and the enigmatic eleventh floor looms, Carl devises a risky plan to reclaim control. Fans are also treated to bonus material exclusively available in this print edition, titled “Backstage at the Pineapple Cabaret.” Talk about a loot box!
