Students and teachers are advised by health officials to continue wearing masks at school.

The Alabama Public Health Department recommends the practice due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in the state as it ranks last in the country for vaccination rates.

The Birmingham, Huntsville, Bessemer and Opelika school systems are already requiring masks to be worn indoors.
