APR student intern Torin Daniel recently produced a radio feature on the first ever Sun Ra Festival in Birmingham, to honor the Alabama Jazz pioneer who helped influence current musical acts like OutKast, Janelle Monae, Phish, Widespread Panic, Radiohead, and Sonic Youth.

  • Alabama is showing new signs that COVID-19 is still with us. A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says test areas in Jefferson County are either high or very high. Levels are low nationally but certain states in the U.S. are part of a recent surge for the virus that causes the disease and Alabama is a part of those states.
  • Music fans from all over the southeast just gathered in Birmingham to celebrate an artist you may not know. Headliners like Widespread Panic, Radiohead, and Outkast all say they’ve been influenced by the Alabama jazz pioneer Sun Ra.
