Sarah Sherrill was a student intern in the Alabama Public Radio newsroom in 2015. She produced a story on the 50th anniversary of the the attack on voting rights marchers in Selma that became known as "bloody Sunday." Her feature was from a student's perspective. That story was part of APR's documentary "More Bridges to Cross" that went on to win best documentary from the National Association of Black Journalists. The program was also honored with a "Bronze Radio Award" from the New York Festivals International Radio Competition.

Heidi Ward is a University of Alabama student intern working in the APR newsroom. So far, Heidi's stories have included the impeachment of Lauderdale County's coroner, and a Black History Month book drive to benefit Alabama's Black Belt.

Former APR student Parker Branton is currently a news reporter for the ABC TV station in Miami. He headed to south Florida after working in Birmingham and an NBC bureau chief in Georgia.

Former APR student intern Josh Hollis produced a feature on a new playground structure built by a Danish company in Tuscaloosa. Other topics included the Alabama Writers Hall of Fame and a local "Escape Room." One of his stories also helped APR win an Alabama Associated Press award for best newscast.

Former APR student reporter Steve Hecmanczuk cover stories for the newsroom ranging from the "Red Crescent Clinic," the 54th annual "Bridge Crossing Jubilee" in Selma, to the Alabama "100 Mile Challenge."

Former APR intern Katie Willem covered stories for the newsroom ranging from the sexual assault SANE Nursing program, a voting registration drive by U.S. Senator Doug Jones, and University of Alabama researchers studying a 2017 solar eclipse.

MacKenzie Bates served as APR's ATC host until 2016. He produced stories on Jesse owners and how Alabama was his home state, how Alabama may be just throwing money at it's ongoing prison issues, and how the state coped with the Zika virus.

Joe Moody is a senior news producer and host for Alabama Public Radio. Before joining the news team, he taught academic writing for several years nationally and internationally. Joe has a Master of Arts in foreign language education as well as a Master of Library and Information Studies. When he is not playing his tenor banjo, he enjoys collecting and listening to jazz records from the 1950s and 60s.
