Governor Kay Ivey has ordered flags on all state government buildings to be flown at half staff, in honor of an Air National Guard member killed in Iraq last week.Major John Kliner lived in Trussville and was also an Auburn graduate.

Three of the six U.S. service members who died in the crash of a U.S. military refueling aircraft were stationed in Birmingham as part of 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.

A pilot from Alabama had just been promoted to major in January and had been deployed less than a week when the refueling aircraft he was aboard crashed in Iraq this week, killing him and five others.

Governor Kay Ivey is emphasizing the importance of remembering Sept. 11, 2001. She will deliver remarks to students and staff at Halcyon Elementary School on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The cities of Tuscaloosa and Trussville are also holding memorial events.

The City of Trussville will publicly dedicate its newest monument on Monday, May 29th. The ceremony could attract veterans and military families from across the state.
