Community Calendar

Rebekah and Matthew Atkinson, the Gulf Coast’s professional sister/brother harp and violin team, will appear in concert for a musical celebration of joy and gratitude for God’s faithfulness and provision. They will be joined for this program by pianist/organist Benjamin Rollings (music director, St. Francis at the Point) and violinist Benjamin Hart (assistant concertmaster, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra), accomplished performers who will greatly add to the energy, excitement, and artistry of the afternoon.
The audience can expect to hear a wide variety of classical music styles, from Elgar’s emotional, deeply moving Nimrod (Enigma Variations) to Sarasate’s highly virtuosic and fiery Spanish dance for two violins, Navarra. This concert will also include many beloved hymns such as “Praise to the Lord”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Great is thy Faithfulness”.
You won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind, musical celebration on October 11th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Francis at the Point Anglican Church. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted.

Young artists in grades 4-5 work in a variety of mediums such as paint, clay, charcoal, and ink. They will practice and expand on their skills in drawing, color theory, art history, studio maintenance, and how to formally evaluate their own artwork and the artwork of others.

Young artists in grades 2-3 explore a variety of artistic mediums, practice creative thinking and problem solving, develop new tools for self-expression, and, most importantly, have fun making art! Our teaching artist will guide young artists through projects tailored to their age and skill levels to help them develop as artists and build important creative skills.

Young artists in grades 6-8 continue to improve upon their art-making skills with a focus on foundations and conceptual thinking.

Young artists who wish to apply to the Alabama School of Fine Arts will receive guidance during the application process including portfolio review and development.

All skill levels are welcome.

City Center Art for high school students is a rigorous multi-media art class with a balance of foundations/essential skills and independent projects. With guidance from the teaching artist, students will increase their observational drawing skills, further their technical control of various mediums and develop and execute individually conceived projects to further their technical control of various mediums and strengthen their conceptual skills.

In addition, students will learn about art-related careers and opportunities. Juniors and seniors receive guidance for college applications and essays while building visual arts portfolios to increase college opportunities.

All skill levels are welcome.
